The Peaberry: 1 is better than 2?
Ah, the Peaberry Coffee Bean. SoooOoo popular in the U.S. and unique in itself. Let me explain: Only a
small percentage of any crop is “peaberry”. Peaberries are a “mutation” whereby the seed of the coffee cherry, normally two halves or flat beans, form a “cylinder” or “pearl” shape instead and DO NOT divide. Sometimes you might hear the term “PearLberries”. They have super awesome roasting qualities because of their “roundness” - It’s a popular one with World Bean Roasthers customers – and soon I fear the price will go up.
Peaberry is not unique to one country as in Tanzania. The most popular though is from Tanzania where coffee beans are havested on the slopes of Mt. Kilamanjaro, Africa’s highest peak. Being so close to neighboring Kenya, there are similar qualities.
Tanzania produces about 490 thousand bags of Arabica beans annually all of which are exported – coffee beans originating from Africa are shipped in 132 lb bags… A big difference compared to the 152 pound sacs from Latin America that I have to hoist into my roaster room !! Hooray for “Body Combat” as it keeps me fit !! Hardly any of this coffee remains in the country
It usually renders a livelier , brighter cup with undistinguished aroma and unmatched uniformity. Lighter in acidity than its neighbor, Kenya – Because they are smaller and rounder they roast nice and evenly in my drum roaster :) Not having the “flatter” sides that are more prone to “scorching” they roast nice and evenly in “drum”. Don’t underestimate the caffeine content of this single “cherry pit” and the saying ; “two is better than one” .
Smooth, bright, well balanced and superb aroma. winey and fruity sweetness – The roast is taken into the second crack for just a few seconds. Order Yours Today ! before the price goes up -
