Come Race Xterra Atlantic Cup In Richmond June 14!
XTERRA has been a passion sport of mine ever since I moved to Culpeper and I always travel with my beans ! “Xterra” Cup Series “are the nations leading off road triathlon series . Several Friends of
World Bean Roasthers will be competing on Sunday June 14, including myself. Check out the website if you are interested in joining the thousands that will be out there next weekend! The Xterra family is just that…”family” oriented. That impressed me – they cater to all family members — kids —- even dogs have an event !
The Xterra America Tour is entering its 10th year with some changes made to the Championship Series. There used to be 4 Champ series and now there will be 8 – each of the 8 regions in the U.S. will host what they now call the “CUP”, giving everyone a “fair” and more “economical” way to participate and qualify for Xterra World Championship in Maui, Hawaii. No one has to travel far for a Cup Series now :)
Richmond, VA will host the “Atlantic Cup” on Sunday June 14…I can hardly
wait — I’ll be on the road to my nieces graduation …then head to Richmond. This is a triathlon. We swim short of a mile in the James River…..mind you …current and tide will dictate exactly where we start and finish!! This has been a very unpredictable swim each year !! It is never ever the same which keeps the event uniquely “exciting” – The Mountain Bike course is mostly single track, technical areas cause me to walk alot , and there are spiral stairs we must negotiate our bikes up and down ! The run is hot…torturous in places especially climbing the “Mayan Ruins” , as seen in photo! Hydration on bike is essential before I dismount to start this 10k run!!
At the end of the season, Regional Champions are crowned in each age group from
the 8 regions – Ive been the Mid Atlantic Regional Champion 4 times now and traveled to compete at Nationals in 2007 for the first time. Randy came with me and we met my mother out there - It was a blast!!! WE don’t take many vacations and Randy is definitely due one. He loved the last Nationals venue at Lake Tahoe – It was an awesomely humbling experience , competing against the Best of the Best! My goal is to qualify again this year and get to Ogden, Utah - venue and VACATION for this years’ National event !

To Finish Is To Conquer!
