Bright and Vibrant! Kenya Coffee

22 May 2009 3 Comments

coffee-cherry-plantKenyan coffees are full of power and character ! This country can boast some of the most “vibrant” and “bright” coffees.   They will be higher in acidity too – it’s just their nature -

Kenya is the East African powerhouse of the coffee world.  When I lived in Africa, little did I know I was right there not far from a coffee giant producing country -  what did I know anyway as a  5th grader.. I  was clueless as to what a coffee bean was -  let alone where coffee came from or what it tasted like!   The best coffees here are not sold simply as generic AA or AB ( a grading system they use for coffee) . They are specific auction lots sold to highest bidders, which drives the prices up – no one told me coffee prices would be consistent anyway – alot can also depend on the political scenario in that country – I’d like to keep current with all that …with so many origins here it’s a time demanding task, but nevertheless , educational and important to me.   I’m working on it ~ Meanwhile, if you haven’t tried Kenya, please do . You are missing out.  I also heard~

**On a historical note: coffee was introduced into Kenya by way of Reunion (Bourbon) island at the end of the 19th century. (1893 is sometimes given as the date). It was brought for local cultivation by the Fathers of the Holy Spirit congregation, another case of the long and twisted road that religion and coffee have traveled together! (ref. Sweet Marias

    Hey Jules,

I lost your email and wanted to respond, so I went to your website to find your email addy …. and I just about gave up looking! Then I found this “leave a comment” form. But I still don’t have your email address!

Unless it is on purpose to reduce spam, you might make your website a little more user friendly when it comes to contacting you! Just a confused user comment :)

Still have not tried the swt potato recipe, but plan to. Maybe without the coconut oil… unless it lends a flavor to the recipe that is crucial….
